What exactly happened to Hijo for him to become a skeleton? Was he ever human or whatever?

Hijo lived his real life about 5468 years ago when he was more or less Human although he cant remember much about this as Farius was incharge of his body, But from what he understands is Farius was a powerful warlord who sold his soul to hell inturn to get the powers of necromancy and eternal life, but there was a catch he would still age, So eventually Farius/Hijo became a skeleton,

Rumour has it that whenever Hijo has a mortal blow dealt to him, he will be sent to hell for 20 or so years and then returned, so for Hijo death isnt salvation.
